NTPC Invites Bids For 900 MW Solar PV Park For Overseas Project

(EPT): NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy producer invites bids from developers to build the Solar PV park in Republic of Cuba.

NTPC, a corporate partner of International Solar Alliance (ISA) has been chosen as the preferred partner for implementation of 900 MW solar PV parks by Government of Cuba.

NTPC and Union Electrica de Cuba (UNE) would work in unison for the implementation of 900 MW solar PV parks in Cuba. The government of Cuba, through its Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), has taken support of ISA for implementation of 900 MW solar PV parks spread in 175 locations across all 15 provinces of Cuba.

NTPC, under ISA Program-6, shall be supporting UNE and MINEM in this selection process, signing of project agreements and overseeing project implementation till commissioning.

The Request for Qualification(RFQ) tender process will start from March 2022 till May 2022.

This 900 MW project which is a part of the 2100 MW solar project implementation target of Cuba is aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The annual generation is expected to be 2400 MWhr per MW.

Cuba is a member country of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a treaty-based organization for increased deployment of solar energy technologies having over 101 signatory countries of which 80 have ratified the framework MW solar PV project with developer selection through an international competitive process.

The launch of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) was announced by Mr. Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and H.E. Mr. Francois Hollande, former Hon’ble President of France on 30th November 2015, at the 21st session of United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP-21) in Paris, France. Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended the launch, alongside the Heads of about 120 nations who affirmed their participation in the Alliance to dedicate efforts for promotion of solar energy.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an alliance of various countries initiated by India, which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. 

ISA has endorsed NTPC, the largest power generating company in South Asia, through a competitive process of Swiss Challenge, as a Project Management Consultant (PMC) partner for implementation of solar projects in ISA member countries.

Implementation of Solar Parks and Projects in ISA Member Countries :

NTPC has a mandate to implement solar parks and projects totalling 10,000 MW in ISA member countries.

NTPC is advising respective Governments and is providing PMC services for implementation of folloiwng Solar projects:

  • Togo – 285 MW Solar Park
  • Mali – 500 MW Solar Park
  • Malawi – 100 MW Solar Park
  • Cuba – 900 MW Solar Park
  • Niger – 50 MW Solar Park.
